News and Spotlights: SAFEMLS
November 10, 2008: As announced this morning, NorthstarMLS will implement the SAFEMLS security initiative in early 2009. This will require all NorthstarMLS subscribers to log on with their user ID, a four-digit PIN number (that the agent creates) and a one-time use password generated by a token (provided by NorthstarMLS free of charge to all subscribers active in early 2009 with MLS dues paid in full). As this affects all users, we want to ensure everyone is informed and prepared for the phased in changeover that will start the week of January 19. We ask your help with getting the message out. Please ensure this information is shared at your weekly sales meeting and any other communication channels at your office. Attached are the communications released to date and a list of talking points for quick review at meetings where time is limited. We understand this may be a difficult change for some. It’s important to stress to them the importance of security and how the current system is too open for data theft and unauthorized users gaining free access.
Please note that SAFEMLS also affects all licensed and unlicensed assistants accessing NorthstarMLS. Each will be required to have a token, which can be set up with permissions to access the information for the agents they support (such as adding and editing their listings). More information will be coming soon from your REALTOR® Association requesting a list of everyone in your office who needs access so that they can all get tokens.
